Reuse

One day Sebastian was playing out in his backyard when his friend Magic came over to visit.

“Hi Sebastian, I saw this toy at the store and

I thought you might like it so I got it for you,” said Magic.

“Gosh, thanks Magic. That was really nice of you,”

replied Sebastian. “You didn’t have to buy me anything.

“Sebastian, why are all of you toys in an old food containers?” asked Magic.

“Well, I reuse plastic containers from the kitchen, like yogurt containers and oatmeal tubs,” answered Sebastian.

“Shouldn’t you recycle those things?” questioned Magic.

“I could, and eventually do, but it is better to reuse objects because then you don’t have to buy new things. That saves money and prevents new plastic from being made,” replied Sebastian.

Just then Gilby bounced into the backyard.

“Hi Gilby!” said Sebastian and Magic in unison.

“Hey guys, how’s it going?” said Gilby. “I couldn’t help but overhear. That’s great that you reuse containers Sebastian. I have a travel mug that I like to use when I get hot chocolate, that way I am not creating waste by using a new paper cups each time.

“Wow, that’s a good idea,” replied Magic. “I always use the random plastic bags I get when I don’t have my canvas bag with me as trash can liners.”

“That’s great Magic!” exclaimed Gilby and Sebastian.

“What do you have there Gilby?” asked Magic.

“This is my camera,” said Gilby. “I use this instead of a disposable camera. Reusing the same camera creates less waste.”

“I have a camera like that, too,” said Sebastian.
“Together we can reuse more things to create less waste! Because the less trash you throw out, the less trash goes into the landfill,” cheered the Green Gang.

What sort of things can you reuse in your home?

Do you reuse food containers for anything?

What does your family do with plastic bags?
