Recylce

Hi, I’m Gilby. I live in a quiet neighborhood
and I have friends that live on the same
block. My friends are Sebastian and Magic.
We love to go to school, read and play outside.

We call ourselves the Green Gang because of our commitment to the environment. We know that it is important to take care of our home and ourselves and we are to teach you how as well.

Help us keep our world beautiful for a better tomorrow.

One day Gilby was playing in his vegetable garden with his friend Sebastian when Magic came around.

“Hi there, Magic, what are you doing?” asked Gilby.

“I was just taking out the trash, trying to keep the place clean,” said Magic.

“Whoa there girl, what do you have in that bag?” questioned Gilby. “Sounds like something that could be recycled.”

“No, I took out all of my aluminum cans,” replied Magic.

“But you have some tin cans and plastic water bottles in your garbage,” said Gilby. “You can recycle those.”

“Recycle? What’s that?” asked Magic.

“Recycling is when you take used items and make new things out of them,” answered Gilby.

“Magic, those are all recyclable,” said Sebastian. “I always recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, cans and bottles.”

“On the bottom of plastic containers there is a number, when there is a 1 to 5 you can put them in the recycling bin.”

“And don’t forget to rinse out your items before you put them in the bin, you don’t want ants,” explained Gilby

“Oh, no!” exclaimed Sebastian. “How did I get ants?”

“Gosh, thanks Gilby,” said Magic. “ I wouldn’t want items that can be recycled to go into a landfill.”

“What is a landfill?” asked Sebastian.

“That is where they take all of our garbage and put it into a big pile,” answered Magic.

“Ewwww,” said Sebastian. “ I bet that smells!”

“And don’t forget to buy items made out of recycled materials,” Gilby reminded them.

“Why is that?” asked Magic.

“Because that completes the cycle of recycling,” answered Gilby. “When you buy paper, tissue, paper towels or toilet paper made of recycled paper it prevents new trees from being cut down.”

“Trees?” questioned Magic.

“Yes, paper products come from trees and we need them to recycle our oxygen so we can breathe,” said Gilby.

“You should listen to Gilby,” said Sebastian. “She knows what she is talking about.”

“Oh, I will,” replied Magic. “I am going to go through my garbage and start recycling today!”

“Together we can recycle the materials we already have and protect our natural resources for the future!”

Where does your family put your recycling?

What sort of container does your family have?

What numbers of plastic can you recycle?

Who does the recycling in your home?

When is your recycling pick up?
