Syllabus
In this class we will explore the principals of design including line, shape,
and perspective. Then we will examine how light creates highlights and shadows
on objects and the gradation of value. This will become evident through
still lives and drapery studies. Then we will learn about the proportions
of the face and create self-portraits. We will study the proportions of
the human body and draw a portrait. Second semester we will explore different
mediums. We will use pen and ink, discover texture, color, collage, charcoal,
and ink washes.
Absences
Students are responsible for work missed while absent. The student may
only make-up work and/or quizzes with and excused absence note.
Material Fee
Students are required to pay a $40 material fee each year. This fee covers
the sketch book the students receive and all of the art supplies they
need in the class.
Grading
Students are responsible for keeping all of their work in their portfolio
until it is time to fill out their grade petition. Students will calculate
their own grade with the grade petition. Homework and quizzes is worth
twenty-five percent of their grade, class work is worth twenty-five percent
of their grade and graded assignments are worth fifty percent of their
grade. Class work is daily exercises that are not graded but the student
receives credit for completing them. Graded assignments are projects that
take two to three days to compete and are collected and graded by the
teacher. Student's work will be graded on time, effort, accepting and
working with positive criticism, and following directions. Unfinished
work will not be accepted.
Homework
Homework is assigned on Monday and is due on Friday. All homework must
be completed in and 8X10 sketch book and not removed. Homework is graded
on time and effort. Late homework will not be accepted. If the student
is absent on Friday the student must bring an excused absent slip and
homework to the teacher before class on Monday.
Clean up
Clean up time is the last five minutes of class. When instructed immediately
stop working and safely put away materials. The student's workspace should
be immaculate. When finished the student is to sit in his/her seat until
dismissed. The teacher will dismiss the students, not the bell.
